Restoring Your History One Image At A Time

Hint – Use the slider arrows to see before and after

In this photo, you can see Martin Luther King Jr. Removing a burnt cross from his yard as his young son Martin Luther King III looks on.  I decided not to add color to the child as I did the rest of the photo.   The reason is that here we see MLK seemingly unfazed removing this symbol of hatred from his yard while speaking to his son.  Unfortunately, the great MLK was not able to pass down all of life’s lessons to his son as he was soon after martyred.  Much of the wisdom of this great man would soon be lost.  Within living memory, so many big names of history had tried to force the United States to look at itself in the mirror, Adolf Hitler, Joeseph Stalin, Nikita Khrushchev, and Leonid Brezhnev the United States never yield, it was the son of a rural Georgia pastor who forced the nation to look within to move forward on the stalled promises dating back to the Civil War.  With the death of MLK there is no doubt a nation, and the world lost a voice of reason, a voice of peace, a voice of unrelenting Faith in humanity that while he shined briefly, it was truly with the radiatance of a thousands sons.

This photo is from the 1921 Tulsa Race  Massacre.  While some have attempted to downplay what happened over the years, the facts are simple.  Hysteria grew among white residents of a black uprising, in response to the specter, to the illusion, of the “uprising” on the morning of June 1st, 1921 thousands of whites descended on the Greenwood neighborhood and burned and looted 35 blocks of black-owned businesses and homes.  This action, as shown in this photo, was aided and supported by the white police force that arrested black citizens.  In all, 1256 homes were torched, as well as a library, school, and numerous churches and businesses.  Estimates put the death toll at over 300 people.  When the national guard arrived on June 2nd the rioting ceased with the presence of the military, they put out the fire but also aided in holding 6000 black residents at the fairground to “restore order”.  No official public acknowledgment was given until the 75th anniversary in 1996.

Telling Life’s Stories

Random History Podcast

History has always been a passion, while I do not believe that history repeats itself entirely, but I do believe as Mark Twain said “History never repeats itself but it rhymes.” History though is intriguing.  When I’m reading I often come across some small detail about a larger subject that just seems endlessly fascinating. These are the subjects I try to cover.

The current topic being covered is the little known American Invasion of Russia in 1918 (W.W. I).  The operation was British led, with British, American, French, Canadian, Polish and local Russian support.  The goal was to reopen the Eastern Front, link up with the Chech Legion, strangle Bolshevism in the crib and make the world safe for Constitutional Monarchy’s with limited citizen enfranchisement.  Oh did it all go so wrong…

Pessimism & Pop Tarts Podcast

An upcoming podcast series chronicling the childhood, life, and times of our staff members (sister & brother duo) Sandra & Ryan.  The series is as brutal as it is compelling.  The self-reflections are honest, and the family dynamic is chaotic but they survivish through wit and classless humor.
